Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officers arrested Alex Mahalingam in Pudukottai district with nearly 1 kilogram of methamphetamine and seized Rs 2 lakh in cash from him.
Alex Mahalingam, who already faces multiple pending methamphetamine smuggling cases filed by Tamil Nadu police, was apprehended following a tip-off.
Earlier in 2023, Royapuram police arrested him based on confessions from two men caught with methamphetamine.
The recent NCB operation involved a search at Melavilakudi, Pudukkottai, where the methamphetamine was recovered. Officials revealed that the drugs were sourced from Bengaluru and were intended for shipment to Sri Lanka via Rameshwaram.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the drug’s final recipient and whether more individuals are involved in the smuggling network.
