Alex Carrol, 29, was arrested in Edson, Alberta, after being charged with fraud under $5,000 and theft under $5,000 following an incident reported by a local rental company.
According to the Alberta RCMP, the rental company received a call from a man claiming to work for another business who requested equipment. A person then visited the company, signed documents using a fake name, and took the equipment.
CCTV footage helped investigators identify Carrol. He was taken into custody on February 24 due to outstanding warrants and appeared before a justice of the peace.
Police reminded businesses to verify identification and confirm orders before releasing equipment, noting that similar scams have been reported recently across western Alberta.
The case was scheduled to go before the Alberta Court of Justice in Edson on March 4.
