Police have arrested a Los Angeles man linked to a major theft ring after recovering more than $1.4 million in stolen train cargo, authorities announced Thursday.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) identified the suspect as 41-year-old Alejandro Aguilar-Espinoza.
On October 6, detectives served a search warrant at a residence in the 4300 block of Verona Street in East Los Angeles. The operation was conducted in partnership with Union Pacific Railroad Police, L.A. Port Police, L.A. World Airport Police, and the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office.
During the search, investigators recovered approximately $1,460,000 worth of stolen cargo, which included Nike shoes, Milwaukee tools, and various electronic equipment.
Aguilar-Espinoza was arrested without incident and booked at the LAPD Metropolitan Detention Center on charges of receiving stolen property.
“Detectives responded to his residence after receiving information indicating the presence of stolen cargo,” the LAPD said in a statement.
Officials praised the multi-agency operation, emphasizing that the case highlights the value of interagency cooperation in tackling large-scale theft and protecting Southern California’s commercial supply chain.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said additional arrests are expected as they continue tracing the origins and distribution of the stolen goods.
