SANTA FE, N.M. (KOLO) — Alfredo Fonteboa Hechavarria, 37, and Dania Guerra, 37, a couple from Albuquerque, were arrested on Friday in Santa Fe for their involvement in the theft of over $20,000 worth of diesel fuel.
The Arrest:
Santa Fe police responded to a report of a possible fuel theft at a Speedway gas station on Sawmill Road after 5 p.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, officers found Fonteboa Hechavarria filling up a white Ford F150 pickup at an altered fuel pump. Police alleged that the pump had been modified to dispense more fuel than it could calculate, allowing the suspect to steal large amounts of diesel fuel.
Investigation Findings:
Officers also discovered that Hechavarria had equipped his truck with an additional fuel tank in the bed, designed to hold large amounts of fuel. Investigations revealed that the thefts had occurred multiple times over the past several weeks, totaling more than $20,000 in stolen fuel.
Charges:
Fonteboa Hechavarria has been charged with:
Larceny over $20,000
Receiving stolen property over $20,000
Possession of a controlled substance
Criminal damage to property over $1,000
His wife, Dania Guerra, was also arrested and faces charges of:
Conspiracy to commit receiving stolen property over $20,000
Conspiracy to commit larceny over $20,000
Conspiracy to commit criminal damage to property over $1,000
Seizure of Evidence:
Authorities also visited Hechavarria’s residence in Albuquerque, where they discovered another vehicle linked to the fuel thefts. This vehicle was seized as evidence.
Booking:
Both Hechavarria and Guerra were booked into the Santa Fe County Jail.
