Alberto Garza, 21, was arrested Friday, March 20, after a Webb County K9 unit detected drugs during a traffic stop on US Highway 83.

A Webb County Patrol Division K9 handler stopped Garza’s vehicle heading south at approximately 3:07 a.m. K9 Ela alerted officers to the presence of narcotics inside the car.

Authorities recovered 2.6 ounces of marijuana and 3.2 grams of methamphetamine from the vehicle.

“Our K9 program is a critical component of keeping Webb County safe,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “K9 Ela and her handler play a vital role in detecting narcotics and preventing dangerous substances from reaching our community. This arrest demonstrates the effectiveness of our K9 teams and the dedication of our patrol officers.”

Garza was taken into custody and booked at the Webb County Jail for processing.
