NEW FAIRFIELD, CT (WFSB) — A Bethel man has been arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle case, after DNA evidence linked him to the crime, Connecticut State Police reported.
Albert Sanchez-Hernandez, 23, faces charges of larceny of a motor vehicle, sixth-degree larceny, and first-degree criminal trover. The case began on December 17, 2024, when New Fairfield police responded to a report of a vehicle stolen from Fulton Drive during the overnight hours.
Just two days later, on December 19, a trooper investigating an unrelated crash in Sherman spotted property from the stolen vehicle inside the car involved in the crash. Working with the Connecticut Adult Parole and Probation Office, officers interviewed individuals connected to the collision.
Their investigation revealed that the stolen car had been seen in Stamford and was operating with a New York registration plate. On December 31, 2024, police recovered the vehicle unoccupied in Danbury.
DNA samples collected from the stolen vehicle were sent to the state forensic lab, which identified Sanchez-Hernandez as a possible suspect. A court-approved search warrant later confirmed that DNA from the stolen car matched a sample obtained from Sanchez-Hernandez.
On May 20, 2025, an arrest warrant was executed, and Sanchez-Hernandez was taken into custody. He was held on a $50,000 court-set bond, which he was unable to post, and transported to the Department of Correction. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 21.
