MILLBROOK, Ala. — On April 5, 2025, Millbrook Police arrested Albert E. McKinnon, a 44-year-old Deatsville resident, after a series of liquor thefts and a failed attempt to elude officers.
Police responded to a duress alarm at a business in the 600 block of Deatsville Highway, where the store manager recognized a man—previously caught stealing liquor twice that week—attempting to re-enter the premises. The manager promptly locked the doors and activated the store’s panic alarm, causing the suspect to leave the scene.
While officers were still on site, they received another call from the nearby ABC store, reporting that a man matching the same description had just stolen a bottle of liquor and left without paying.
Shortly after, officers located the suspect’s vehicle in the 400 block of Deatsville Highway and attempted a traffic stop. McKinnon initially refused to stop, continuing to drive to the 800 block, where he eventually pulled over but refused to exit the vehicle or follow commands. Officers used minimal force to remove him from the vehicle and place him under arrest.
McKinnon resisted arrest and was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. He was evaluated and treated for minor injuries and alcohol overexposure at a local medical facility before being transported to the Elmore County Jail.
McKinnon faces the following charges:
Attempting to Elude
Driving Under the Influence
Resisting Arrest
Two counts of Theft of Property 4th Degree
According to police, McKinnon was involved in liquor thefts on April 1 and April 3 and attempted to strike again on April 5 but was denied entry by the vigilant store manager. Undeterred, he allegedly went to the ABC store and stole another bottle before being spotted and arrested.
“Based on our officers’ accounts, this gentleman was clearly in no condition to be operating a motor vehicle—or to be in public,” said a Millbrook Police representative. “We hope this arrest leads to him receiving the help he appears to need. Multiple thefts of alcohol in such a short period, while intoxicated, puts both himself and others at serious risk.”
McKinnon remains in custody pending a hearing before the Millbrook Municipal Court.
