Albany, NY — Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced that 26-year-old Isaiah Matos of Albany has been arraigned on a seven-count indictment, facing charges related to drug possession and assaulting police officers.

Matos appeared before Judge Thomas Marcelle in Albany County Court on Wednesday. The indictment includes charges of assault, three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, and two counts of criminal possession of controlled substances.

These charges stem from two separate incidents. The first occurred on January 14, when Albany County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped Matos during a traffic stop at North Lake Avenue and Second Street. Deputies discovered a drug scale along with cocaine and suboxone in his vehicle.

The second incident took place on April 1, when Albany Police stopped Matos near Philip Street and Wilbur Street. Officers reportedly found another scale and several bags containing cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl. During the arrest, Matos allegedly broke free, fled from the officers, discarded a bag of drugs, and fought with police, injuring one officer in the process.

Matos has been remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility. If convicted on all charges, he could face up to 24 years in state prison.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Marissa Olsen of the Street Crimes Unit.
