Alan Redmond, Others Charged in $Millions Health Scam

Telemarketing scheme misled thousands on insurance coverage

by Sophia Bennett

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Four men and two companies have been indicted in a sweeping federal case involving a multimillion-dollar telemarketing fraud scheme that allegedly misled thousands of consumers seeking health insurance.

Alan Redmond (42) of Wyomissing, PA, Arthur Walsh (65) of West Lawn, Jesus Barrera (32) of Dillsburg, and Albert Groff (44) of Wernersville, along with companies Bene Market LLC and Seguro Medico LLC—operating as the Bene Market Group—have been charged with conspiracy and wire fraud.

Federal prosecutors allege that between January 2018 and December 2022, the Bene Market Group operated a Reading, PA-based call center that used deceptive tactics to market and sell limited-benefit health and dental plans under various names, including Quick Health, Benefits Now, and YourBenefits4U. These were falsely promoted as comprehensive insurance, leaving consumers exposed to massive out-of-pocket expenses.

The indictment claims that unlicensed representatives used misleading scripts, falsely represented affiliations with major insurers, and suppressed crucial plan information, effectively baiting and switching customers into purchasing insufficient coverage.

Beyond consumer fraud, Alan Redmond is accused of using funds for luxury purchases—including jewelry, limo services, and private school tuition—while also allegedly withholding $1.2 million in payroll taxes from 2019 to 2022 without paying the IRS.

If convicted:

Redmond faces up to 635 years in prison, restitution, forfeiture of assets, and $6.75 million in fines.

Walsh, Barrera, and Groff face up to 600 years each and $5 million in penalties.

The investigation involved the FBI, IRS Criminal Investigation, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Samuel S. Dalke and Mary E. Crawley are prosecuting the case.

Authorities stress that these are allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
