TUSCALOOSA, AL – Four University of Alabama football players have been arrested and charged in connection with two early morning robbery incidents on campus.
Linebacker Tyler Hayes and defensive lineman D.J. Pettway were both charged with second-degree robbery. Defensive back Eddie Williams and running back Brent Calloway face charges of second-degree robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card.
According to reports, Hayes and Williams admitted to attacking a fellow student—punching him, kicking him while unconscious, and stealing his backpack containing an Apple laptop. In a second incident, Williams confessed to punching another student while Pettway and Hayes watched. He then stole the student’s wallet and used the ID card to buy snacks from a vending machine in the team’s dorm.
This is Williams’ second arrest in the same week. Just one day earlier, he was taken into custody for carrying an unlicensed firearm after a gas station clerk reported suspicious behavior. Police found a gun tucked into Williams’ waistband during a search.
All four players were reserve members of Alabama’s 2013 BCS National Championship team. The university and athletic department have yet to issue formal statements regarding the arrests.
