Alabama Correctional Officer Arrested for Theft at Kilby Prison

Officer William Todd Charged for Stealing Items from Inmate

by Sophia Bennett

A Senior Correctional Officer with the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC), William Todd, was arrested on Tuesday after being charged with using his official position for personal gain. Court documents reveal that Todd took several items from an inmate while booking him into the Kilby Correctional Facility in Montgomery County on August 13.

According to records, Todd stole cigarettes, rolling papers, and two gold chains from the inmate. He later confessed to giving the cigarettes and rolling papers to another inmate in exchange for a haircut. The gold chains were found at Todd’s home and returned to the inmate, who declined to press charges after getting his property back.

Todd resigned from his position at the prison on October 8 and turned himself in to the Montgomery County Detention Facility on Tuesday after an arrest warrant was issued. He was held on a $5,000 bail.

The case will be referred to the Montgomery County district attorney’s office for prosecution, as officials continue to investigate the incident.
