Ajmer police seized 6.20 kg of opium, valued at approximately Rs35 lakh, from a truck en route to Punjab in the early hours of Monday. The operation led to the arrest of the driver and conductor under the NDPS Act near Nasirabad on the highway.
According to authorities, the District Special Team received a tip-off late Sunday night about the illegal transport of narcotics from Madhya Pradesh to Punjab. Acting on the information, a police blockade was set up near the Jadwasa police post, led by Special Team In-charge Satyawan and Nasirabad Sadar SHO Ashok Bishu.
At around 3 am, the truck attempted to break the blockade and flee but was intercepted near Srinagar. During a thorough search, opium was discovered concealed near the tyres of the vehicle.
The arrested individuals were identified as:
Bhupendra Singh, 50, resident of Muktsar Sahib, Punjab
Kalwant Singh, 35, resident of Muktsar Sahib, Punjab
A formal case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and network behind the illegal narcotics transport.
