Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested two men and recovered stolen property worth nearly Rs1.47 crore in connection with a high-value house burglary at Manekbagh Society in the city’s Satellite area, officials said on Friday.

The burglary occurred between January 11 and 16, when a doctor’s family had locked their house and travelled out of town during the Uttarayan festival. Taking advantage of their absence, the accused allegedly broke into the residence and stole cash and jewellery.

Following a complaint, the Crime Branch launched an intensive investigation. Over 200 CCTV recordings from nearby areas were examined, and technical surveillance along with other intelligence inputs helped identify the suspects.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Kamlesh alias Gugo Parmar (29), a resident of Chandkheda, and Mehul Parmar (26), who had lived in different areas of Ahmedabad including Shahpur and Vasna. Both are originally from Banaskantha district.

Officials said Kamlesh is a habitual offender with at least 10 prior house-breaking and theft cases registered in Ahmedabad and surrounding areas. The duo reportedly targeted locked homes during the festive period.

During the operation, the Crime Branch traced and legally recovered the entire stolen property, which includes:

Rs45 lakh in cash

Gold jewellery weighing 2,278.99 grams (approx. Rs1.01 crore)

Silver jewellery weighing 557.4 grams (approx. Rs50,000)

Diamond ornaments

The total value of the recovered property is estimated at nearly Rs1.50 crore. Legal proceedings are underway under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The Crime Branch is also investigating whether the duo is linked to similar burglary cases in other parts of Ahmedabad.
