Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Crime Branch conducted a raid in Sarkhej village on Tuesday, arresting five individuals and seizing cash and valuables totaling over Rs5.15 lakh.
Officials said the raid took place behind the Union Office, where the accused were caught red-handed engaging in illegal gambling.
The arrested have been identified as Biren Kanu Parmar (30), Gulam Kader Rehman Mithani (37), Mahesh Suresh Thakor (29), Dhamendra Chandrakant Devalekar (45), and Suyashkant Ramesh Parmar (33).
During the operation, the Crime Branch recovered:
Rs25,170 in cash
Five mobile phones valued at Rs50,000
Nine vehicles worth Rs4.4 lakh
Various gambling paraphernalia
Some suspects managed to flee, abandoning vehicles including an Ather electric scooter, Honda Shine, Bajaj Discover, and Activa scooter. Their identities are unknown, and investigations are ongoing. A case has been registered under Section 12 of the Gujarat Prevention of Gambling Act at DCB Police Station.
Officials added that some of the accused have prior criminal records. Gulam Kader was previously arrested in two gambling cases in Jasdan, Mahesh Thakor was booked in 2016 for a double murder, and Suyashkant Parmar has a prior gambling arrest.
Police continue investigations to trace the fleeing suspects and identify additional links to the gambling network.
