PORT ARTHUR — A Port Arthur man has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of murder in a 2022 stabbing that authorities described as particularly violent.
Ahmad Acrond, 49, was found guilty by a jury this week in the killing of 39-year-old Chaddric Lanes Sr. The verdict came Wednesday, and the sentence was handed down Thursday in Judge Raquel West’s courtroom.
The fatal stabbing occurred on March 11, 2022, in the 800 block of Stilwell Boulevard. Lanes later died at a hospital.
According to investigators, Acrond and Lanes were involved in an argument that escalated to the stabbing.
Body camera footage captured during Acrond’s arrest showed him resisting officers, despite being handcuffed. He was combative and attempted to pull away, but officers managed to restrain him and place him in a patrol car.
With the life sentence now in place, Acrond will serve his term without the possibility of parole.
