In a major land fraud case, Mavala police in Adilabad have arrested three individuals — including two government employees — for attempting to illegally occupy seven residential plots worth over Rs2 crore using forged documents and double registration.
The arrested accused have been identified as N. Venkataramana (59), B. Sanjeev Kumar (49), both government staff, and Ushka Malla Raghupathi (43), a former sarpanch of Mavala. All three are residents of Adilabad.
According to police, the group conspired with a sub-registrar, Duppalapudi Ashok — currently absconding — to fraudulently re-register the plots in 2024. The properties originally belonged to a Maharashtra-based individual.
Investigations revealed that fake documents were used to carry out the double registration and that the accused allegedly offered a bribe of ₹7 lakh to Ashok for enabling the illegal transaction.
The scam surfaced after the rightful landowner, Milind, filed a complaint during the “Message Your SP” programme, prompting police to act. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the three accused, while efforts are underway to apprehend Ashok.
The seven plots, located in Sai Nagar, are estimated to be worth over Rs2 crore.
