KEY LARGO, Fla. (CBS12) — Two Key Largo residents, Addison Lee Baumgardner, 37, and Shelby Lynn Baer, 33, were arrested on May 16 after Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a significant quantity of fentanyl, cocaine, and other controlled substances. The arrests occurred after detectives witnessed the pair allegedly selling drugs while a 6-year-old child was present.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the arrests followed surveillance of the two near 98000 Overseas Highway, where detectives observed the suspects engaging in suspected drug sales. Baer had the child in her custody during the incident.
A search warrant led to the discovery of:
2.3 ounces of fentanyl powder
105 fentanyl pills
8.7 grams of powder cocaine
1 gram of crack cocaine
36-gram cocaine-liquid mixture
More than 100 assorted pills
A digital scale
$976 in cash
Baumgardner was booked into the county jail on multiple felony charges, including:
Fentanyl trafficking
Cocaine trafficking
Cocaine possession and manufacturing
Possession of a controlled substance
Drug paraphernalia possession
Baer faces charges of fentanyl trafficking and child neglect.
The child was safely turned over to a family member, and the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) has been notified.
The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to combat the opioid crisis and protect children from exposure to illegal drug activity.
