Navi Mumbai police have arrested Adarsh Prashant Mhatre (34) for allegedly impersonating an ISRO scientist and Public Works Department (PWD) official to defraud and exploit multiple women.
According to police, Mhatre used several fake identities on popular matrimonial websites to target highly educated women, promising marriage while projecting a fabricated image of wealth and professional success.
Investigators revealed that he flaunted a fake luxurious lifestyle, including frequent hotel visits, to gain the trust of his victims. He allegedly persuaded them to take loans under the pretext of investing in property deals. Instead of investing the money, he reportedly misappropriated the funds for personal expenses, including casino trips.
Police said the accused sexually exploited some victims before disappearing. The fraud, spanning cities such as Navi Mumbai, Thane, Mumbai, and Pune, allegedly amounted to Rs 89.40 lakh.
His criminal activities date back to 2019 and include charges of cheating, forgery, and impersonation. Further investigation is underway to identify additional victims and possible accomplices.
