CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Adarres Thompson, a convicted felon, on September 16 after he allegedly stole a white Hyundai Elantra with a toddler in the back seat near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Police said when Thompson spotted an officer in uniform, he reversed the vehicle, turned onto Cameron Boulevard, and attempted to flee before getting stuck in traffic. Officers reported that Thompson resisted arrest and fled on foot.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers found the toddler safe inside, along with over 8.5 pounds of marijuana, approximately 100 pills, a scale, 75 baggies, and more than $6,100 in cash.

UNCC police later apprehended Thompson without incident inside a residence hall. Police records show his driver’s license was permanently revoked.

Thompson faces charges including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, fleeing/attempting to elude police, and selling/delivering a Schedule I controlled substance.

According to Department of Public Safety records, Thompson has multiple prior felony convictions, including fleeing arrest and possession of stolen vehicles.
