Adam Winter, 31, from Barnsley, has been sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of burglary dwelling and theft of a motor vehicle. Winter was linked to a stolen car after a burglary in Wakefield led to a crash in Barnsley.

The crime began in the early hours of May 11 when a burglary occurred at a home on Mountbatten Avenue, Wakefield. While the victim was asleep upstairs, thieves stole a VW Up, house keys, and money from a purse. The stolen vehicle was captured on CCTV at 3:10 a.m. driving along Mountbatten Avenue.

Around 13 minutes later, the stolen VW crashed into parked cars on High Croft Drive in Barnsley. CCTV footage showed two suspects exiting the vehicle, with one of them limping away. Winter was forensically linked to the crime after a vape was found inside the stolen vehicle, and his image was identified on CCTV footage by South Yorkshire Police.

Winter was arrested and, following a trial at Leeds Crown Court, was convicted of burglary and theft. He appeared before the court again on December 19, 2024, where he was sentenced to six years in prison.
