Grand jury charges man for third organized retail theft offense

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – A Randall County grand jury has indicted Adam Michael Moreno, 37, on charges stemming from his third organized retail theft offense.

Moreno was originally arrested in August on a warrant for organized retail theft involving property valued between $750 and $2,500. The arrest followed a two-month, multi-agency investigation led by the Amarillo Police Department.

After extensive surveillance, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Tampa Street near Georgia Street, where they recovered nearly $80,000 worth of stolen items. Moreno was arrested at the scene and booked into the Randall County Jail, later posting a $25,000 bond.

However, only hours after his release, Moreno was taken back into custody on a probation violation warrant and booked into the Potter County Detention Center. His bond was initially denied until Judge Tim Pirtle of the 108th District Court set it at $50,000.

Before this latest arrest, Moreno had been on 10 years’ probation for two felony counts of organized retail theft in Potter County. He was one of four men charged in an organized retail theft ring in October 2023.

That earlier investigation uncovered evidence in a stolen Ford Bronco, which led police to identify multiple thefts from homes and businesses across Amarillo, including HTeaO, Lowe’s, and Home Depot. Officers later found more than 400 stolen power tools stored in Moreno’s home.

The new indictment is enhanced, meaning although the charge is classified as a Class A misdemeanor, it will be punished as a felony because of Moreno’s prior convictions.

Moreno is represented by attorney Jesse Quackenbush.
