A man and woman were arrested following a shoplifting spree at multiple stores in northwest Austin, including Kohl’s, according to the Austin Police Department (APD).
On June 3 at approximately 12:50 p.m., officers responded to a report at the Kohl’s located at 11111 Lakeline Blvd. Store employees had spotted two suspects removing security tags and hiding unpaid merchandise inside reusable shopping bags and a purse.
APD officers observed the suspects, identified as 43-year-old Ada Johnson and 44-year-old Daryl Johnson, leaving the store with stolen items. The pair got into a black Tesla before being taken into custody.
Police recovered about $1,600 worth of stolen merchandise from Kohl’s. Additionally, officers found approximately $2,000 in goods stolen earlier that day from H-E-B and Home Depot, as well as items taken from a Walmart in Buda several days prior.
Further investigation revealed evidence of identity theft and fraud, along with methamphetamine possession.
Ada Johnson was charged with Theft with Two Prior Convictions and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, both State Jail Felonies. Daryl Johnson faces a Theft charge, classified as a Class A Misdemeanor.
