NEW YORK CITY — Michael Pitt, the actor best known for his roles in “Boardwalk Empire” and “Dawson’s Creek,” was arrested on May 2 in connection with multiple sexual abuse charges. He was arraigned at Kings Supreme Criminal Court in Brooklyn, facing accusations stemming from four alleged incidents that took place between April 2020 and August 2021.
Pitt was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, criminal sexual acts in the first and third degree, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of attempted assault, and one count of strangulation in the second degree. He pleaded not guilty to all charges. After posting bail, Pitt was released from custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for June 17.
According to the indictment, the charges stem from Pitt’s ex-girlfriend, who alleges that Pitt subjected her to various forms of abuse, including forcible sexual contact, non-consensual oral sex, and a violent physical assault involving a four-by-four piece of wood and a cinderblock. The indictment also claims that Pitt strangled the woman, causing her to lose consciousness and suffer physical injury.
Pitt’s attorney, Jason Goldman, issued a statement saying, “We live in a world where someone like Mr. Pitt can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an individual. This baseless claim is suspiciously raised years after the alleged incident, and this case will be dismissed.”
Pitt has had other legal troubles in the past, including an arrest in July 2022 for assault and petty larceny after allegedly striking a man and stealing his phone. In September 2022, Pitt was hospitalized after being accused of throwing objects from a rooftop.
Recently, Pitt has been active in film, starring in three projects released in 2023: the thriller “Asphalt City”, the crime drama “Reptile”, and the boxing film “Day of the Fight”.
