Achhi Mahesh Reddy Arrested in Vizag Night Burglaries

26 housebreak cases cracked; Rs15.63 lakh recovered

The Gajuwaka Crime Police have cracked 26 nighttime housebreak cases across Visakhapatnam, arresting a notorious burglar and recovering stolen property worth Rs15.63 lakh, police said on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Achhi Mahesh Reddy (27), also known as Sunny, a former software engineer and a resident of Park Street, Madhavadhara, Visakhapatnam. He is originally from Kakinada district.

Addressing a press conference, Commissioner of Police Shanka Brata Bagchi said the investigation began after a complaint was lodged on October 14, 2025, at the Gajuwaka Police Station regarding the theft of gold and silver ornaments from a house in NTR Nagar, Jogavanipalem. Crime Inspector Kalluri Srinivasa Rao registered the case and launched a detailed probe.

During the investigation, police found that similar burglaries had occurred within the jurisdictions of Gajuwaka, Arilova, Malkapuram, Pendurthi, and Duvvada police stations. In total, property worth Rs24.66 lakh was stolen in 26 cases, including 1,084.94 grams of gold, 6,333.5 grams of silver, and Rs40,500 in cash.

Special police teams were formed to track the accused. Based on technical surveillance, pattern analysis, and local intelligence, officers successfully identified and arrested Mahesh Reddy. Police recovered a substantial portion of the stolen property from his possession.

Further investigation is underway to verify whether the accused was involved in additional burglary cases and to recover the remaining stolen valuables.
