LAGOS, NIGERIA — Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command’s Homicide Section have arrested Abubakar Iliyasu for the murder of 65-year-old Mrs. Jane Okoye, which occurred on April 2, 2025, in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos.
Initial investigations revealed that Iliyasu forcibly entered the victim’s home and stole her Toyota Sienna vehicle. Mrs. Okoye was found unconscious at the scene and was rushed to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The case was quickly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba. Using intelligence and technical resources, homicide detectives successfully tracked the suspect to Ankpa in Kogi State, where he was arrested. The stolen vehicle was recovered in good condition and has been secured as evidence.
The suspect is currently in SCID custody in Yaba, assisting investigators. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, assured the public that Iliyasu will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law upon conclusion of the investigation. He also reaffirmed the command’s dedication to public safety and the protection of lives and property throughout the state.
