The Central Crime Unit (CCU) of MBVV Police arrested Abhishek Arvind Singh (25), a cunning vehicle thief who used insider access to steal high-end SUVs and sedans.
Singh’s unique modus operandi involved securing employment at the home or office of his target, discreetly stealing spare keys, and later driving off with the vehicle. He would then flee to his native village in Buxar, Bihar, where he stored the stolen vehicles for personal use.
The latest theft involved a Mahindra Thar SUV worth Rs15 lakh, stolen from Bhayandar on March 5. Inspector Aviraj Kurhade led the CCU team in tracking Singh by reviewing CCTV footage and activating the informer network. They eventually traced him to Majharia village in Buxar.
With help from DCP (Crime) Avinash Ambure and Buxar police, Singh was arrested and a major haul of stolen vehicles was recovered from his residence. These included:
Mahindra Thar
Toyota Fortuner
Toyota Yaris
Honda City
Honda Amaze
The total value of the recovered vehicles is estimated at Rs59 lakh. Notably, all the cars were not sold but used by Singh’s family, who were reportedly unaware of their stolen origins.
“Singh had cultivated an image of wealth in his village, boasting about his success in Mumbai while living off stolen luxury vehicles,” said an officer from the investigating team.
An FIR has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Singh has been remanded into custody as further investigation continues.
