A man, identified as Abhijith Bhuyan (30) from Sivasagar, Assam, was arrested in connection with the death of Kabya Jyothi, a 45-year-old from Nagaon, Assam, at a lodge in Thoppumpady. The arrest came after a detailed probe revealed Bhuyan’s involvement in the murder.
The incident occurred on October 30, when Kabya was found unconscious in a room at Nethaji Lodge. According to the investigation, Kabya and four others, who worked together on fishing boats, had taken two rooms at the lodge on October 29. Kabya and Abhijith stayed in one of the rooms together.
The postmortem confirmed that Kabya died from being smothered. Police suspect a confrontation between Kabya and Abhijith may have led to the murder. However, the exact motive behind the crime is still under investigation. Bhuyan is expected to be produced before the court on Wednesday.
