A New York man accused of defrauding elderly residents in North Jersey out of nearly half a million dollars was arrested by NYPD on Sunday, August 11. Authorities apprehended 40-year-old Abba Cohen of Flushing, NY, who was wanted in Glen Rock and had previously been arrested and released in Woodland Park.
According to Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann, Cohen faces charges including conspiracy to commit theft by deception and receiving stolen property related to a January 2024 home improvement scam that cost an elderly Glen Rock resident $25,800.
Cohen also faces charges in Passaic County, where prosecutors allege he stole $432,000 from a senior citizen in Woodland Park through a similar scam. There, he was charged with conspiracy to commit theft by deception, receiving stolen property, and money laundering. Following a court hearing, he was released on pre-trial monitoring.
Currently, Cohen remains in custody in New York City pending extradition to New Jersey, officials said.
