CROWLEY, La. — A Crowley man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to rob a convenience store, stealing two vehicles, and leading officers on a vehicle pursuit, according to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Aaron Senegal, 34, of Crowley, was taken into custody and charged with simple robbery, two counts of motor vehicle theft, aggravated flight from an officer, two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, two counts of illegal possession of stolen property, three counts of possession of firearms by a convicted felon, and two counts of obscenity.
The incident began Tuesday morning when authorities were called to a convenience store where Senegal reportedly tried to steal money from the cash register. The store clerk pushed him away from the counter, and Senegal fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.
Law enforcement officials believe Senegal drove to Rayne, where he was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run incident. The Rayne Police Department is continuing to investigate that portion of the case.
From Rayne, Senegal reportedly traveled to Morse. There, he is accused of abandoning the first stolen vehicle and stealing another from a nearby residence after allegedly entering the home to take the keys.
Authorities said he was later seen traveling back toward Crowley in the second stolen vehicle. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Senegal led them on a pursuit that ended on Schule Road, just north of Crowley. He crashed the vehicle in a nearby field and was taken into custody.
Senegal was treated at a local hospital before being booked into the Acadia Parish Jail. His bond has been set at $171,500.
