Delhi Police Busts Cyber Fraud; Four Arrested in Scams

Online investment and digital arrest scams exposed

by Ananya Mehta

The Delhi Police have dismantled an interstate cyber fraud network, arresting four individuals in separate cases involving online investment fraud and a digital arrest scam.

In the first case, a resident of Laxmi Nagar, East Delhi, lost Rs31.45 lakh after being lured into a fake investment scheme operated via a social media group. The complainant was persuaded to install a trading app and transfer funds to six different bank accounts with promises of high returns. Shortly after, the app ceased functioning, and the fraudsters disappeared.

Police investigations revealed that the stolen money was routed through multiple mule accounts. Raids conducted in Ludhiana and Khanna, Punjab, led to the arrest of two first-layer account holders. Additionally, Arjun Singh (39) of Surendranagar, Gujarat was arrested on December 27 for operating a second-layer account and earning a commission of Rs2 lakh, according to DCP (Crime) Aditya Gautam.

In a separate case, a US citizen filed a complaint alleging she was digitally arrested through calls from individuals impersonating officials from the US Embassy and Delhi Police. The victim was coerced into transferring Rs30 lakh.

Police traced the money trail to a firm in SAS Nagar, Punjab. Subsequent raids in Mohali and Chandigarh led to the arrest of Varun, one of the firm’s partners and the first-layer beneficiary.

Authorities emphasized that such scams often operate across multiple states, using mule accounts and fake identities to evade detection. Citizens are urged to verify investment opportunities and remain cautious of unsolicited calls claiming legal or governmental authority.
