The Erode Taluk Police arrested a 20-year-old woman, Sujithra, on Saturday for the death of her husband, Madan Kumar, 21, a construction worker, on December 5. The incident was initially reported as an accidental fall.
The couple, married just five months ago, were living in a joint family in Keel Thindal. According to police, Madan Kumar became intoxicated on December 5 and was brought home by relatives. Shortly afterward, screams were heard from Sujithra, and the family found Madan lying motionless with a small amount of blood in his mouth.
He was rushed to the Erode Government Hospital and later transferred to a private hospital, then to Coimbatore Government Medical College and Hospital. Doctors initially suspected poisoning, but Madan died on December 11.
Following a complaint from Madan’s mother, Lakshmi, and the postmortem report showing blood clots in the neck and brain, police reclassified the case from suicide to murder.
Preliminary investigation revealed frequent disputes between the couple over Sujithra’s desire to move to her parents’ home. On December 5, the couple argued, during which Madan reportedly grabbed Sujithra by the neck. In response, she pushed him, causing him to fall and hit his head, leading to loss of consciousness and eventually death.
Based on these findings, police arrested Sujithra on charges of murder.
