Rajasthan Police on Monday arrested filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt in connection with a Rs 30 crore fraud case. The couple was taken into custody from their sister-in-law’s residence in Mumbai and brought to Udaipur, where police secured their transit remand until Thursday.
When arriving in Udaipur, the Bhatt couple reportedly shielded their faces from the media. DSP Chhagan Purohit, the investigating officer, confirmed that both would be produced in court the following morning for further proceedings.
Authorities are now examining documentary evidence and financial transactions related to the case. Police had previously issued notices to six accused, providing them time until December 8 to appear before authorities.
The alleged fraud targeted Indira IVF founder Dr Ajay Murdia. The scheme reportedly involved convincing Murdia to finance a biopic on his late wife, promising potential profits of approximately Rs 200 crore. Vikram Bhatt has been named as the main accused, while Mehboob and Dinesh Kataria are also cited in the complaint.
In earlier statements, Vikram Bhatt asserted his willingness to fully cooperate with the investigation and provide evidence supporting his claims. The police have also conducted medical examinations of both Vikram and Shwetambari as part of standard procedures.
