The Chandigarh cyber crime police have arrested Sanskar Jain (22) from Madhya Pradesh and Rabendra Kumar Patel (28) from Daman for allegedly cheating a city resident of over Rs 60 lakh in an online fraud case. Both accused were produced before a local court, which granted a three-day police remand.
According to SHO Eram Rizvi, complainant Sunil Kumar of Sector 32 connected with a Facebook profile named Morris Pauline on September 25, 2024. He was offered a business opportunity to purchase Avastin Powder, with a proposed monthly supply of 300 kg from a US lab. Communications continued via WhatsApp and email, directing him to Indian suppliers.
Sunil Kumar paid Rs 13 lakh for 50 kg of Avastin Powder, followed by an additional demand of Rs 10 lakh, ultimately losing a total of Rs 60,65,883. Investigation revealed multiple bank accounts in the names of the accused had received fraudulent deposits. Subsequent raids in Daman and Diu led to their arrest under the jurisdiction of Nani Daman police station.
