WYANDOT COUNTY, Ohio — A 70-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday in Wyandot County, and authorities have arrested a suspect, the sheriff’s office reported.
Deputies responded to a 911 call around 7:31 p.m. at a residence on 2858 Township Highway 43 in Nevada. A second call came minutes later regarding threats to a family member.
Stephen Mitten was found dead inside the home from apparent gunshot wounds. Jason Mitten, 48, of Nevada, was taken into custody and charged with one count of murder.
Jason Mitten appeared in court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, where a judge set his bond at $3 million. He is scheduled to return to court on Dec. 22.
The victim’s body was transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for examination. Investigators from the Wyandot County Major Crimes Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
