An Ottawa man, Kwene Tombwe, has been sentenced to six years in prison after a lengthy investigation into immigration fraud and sexual assault. The joint investigation, carried out by Ottawa police (OPS) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), began in 2016.
Tombwe fled Canada in 2017 after learning of the ongoing investigation but returned to Canada in 2023 seeking medical treatment. Upon his return, he was arrested by the CBSA and brought back to Ottawa to face the charges.
On October 15, Tombwe pleaded guilty to multiple offenses, including three counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference with a minor, and charges related to misrepresentation under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Citizenship Act.
Tombwe was sentenced to six years in prison for the sexual assault charges and one year for each of the other offenses, with the sentences to be served concurrently.
