A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to 24 months in prison after using social media and direct contact to stalk a woman in Wiltshire.
Patrick Egerton, of Spiders Island, Alderbury, had previously been given a restraining order in Northern Ireland prohibiting contact with the victim. Despite this, he continued to harass her, her family, and neighbours over the phone.
Egerton escalated his behaviour by posting false allegations of child abuse against the victim on social media, sharing her photos and address. The actions caused her significant fear and anxiety.
He was arrested, charged with stalking causing fear of violence, and pleaded guilty. On 28 November 2025, Swindon Crown Court sentenced him to two years in prison and imposed a 10-year restraining order, preventing him from contacting the victim, attending her address, or posting about her online.
Investigator Joe Cantillon said: “Egerton’s behaviour caused his victim to live in fear, spreading harmful lies via social media and threatening her on occasions. This behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
The victim described the ongoing impact in a court statement: “I have been having nightmares and avoid certain places. Even knowing he is in prison, I still feel anxious and paranoid. Some days are better, but others are extremely difficult.”
Northamptonshire Police encourage anyone experiencing stalking or harassment to report concerns immediately.
