MINNESOTA — Abdul Dahir Ibrahim, a Somali national with a history of fraud convictions, was arrested Friday by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as part of ongoing federal immigration enforcement efforts. He is being held at the McCook ICE facility in Nebraska.
Ibrahim has had multiple removal orders since 2004 and previously faced convictions for asylum and welfare fraud in Canada. After entering the United States through New York in 1995, he accumulated several legal issues, including providing false information to authorities and traffic violations in Minnesota.
Federal authorities noted that Ibrahim had previously been granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which shielded him from deportation for a period of 10 years. An application to extend his TPS remains pending.
Photos have circulated showing Ibrahim with several Minnesota political figures, including Gov. Tim Walz and Rep. Ilhan Omar, which authorities say were shared on social media by the Department of Homeland Security. Ibrahim also received a letter of recommendation from a former Minneapolis mayoral candidate during his immigration proceedings.
Ibrahim’s history includes multiple rejected asylum petitions, some involving falsified family claims, and a U.S. immigration judge previously cited a “complete lack of credibility” in denying one of his applications.
The arrest comes amid broader ICE operations in Minnesota targeting individuals with longstanding immigration violations, including fraud allegations.
