Police have named the victim of a fatal shooting in Brent as detectives continue their search for the person responsible.
Simon Whyte, 55, was shot in the Stonebridge area on Friday evening and was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency efforts to save him.
Officers were called to reports of a shooting on West End Close at around 9:35pm. Police and the London Ambulance Service attended and provided first aid, but Mr Whyte could not be saved.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Team are leading the investigation and have launched an appeal for witnesses, information, and dashcam footage. Investigators are particularly keen to speak with a group of people who were nearby at the time of the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John said the force’s thoughts were with Mr Whyte’s family and friends. He added that enquiries are progressing quickly and reassured local residents that additional patrols have been put in place.
“This incident will understandably cause concern in the community,” he said. “Our investigation remains a priority, and we urge anyone who witnessed what happened or has information that could help to come forward.”
No arrests have been made at this stage, and police say the investigation remains in its early phases.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police as enquiries continue
