Kollur Police have arrested a 21-year-old youth from Rajasthan, Nasir Hussain, for allegedly running a fake website that closely resembled the official portal of Sri Mookambika Temple, cheating devotees by collecting money for advance accommodation bookings.
The accused, Nasir Hussain, son of Khursheed Khan and a resident of Alwar district, Rajasthan, was traced and taken into custody on December 19. Police seized a laptop that was allegedly used to create and operate the fraudulent website.
According to investigators, Hussain designed a counterfeit online portal mimicking the temple’s official website and issued fake booking confirmations and receipts after receiving payments from unsuspecting devotees. The fraud surfaced after the Executive Officer of Sri Mookambika Temple noticed irregularities and lodged a formal complaint at the Kollur Police Station.
Following the complaint, Crime No. 80/2025 was registered on November 3 under Sections 318(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act. A special investigation team was constituted under the supervision of Kundapura Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police H.D. Kulkarni.
The accused was produced before the Byndoor court on December 20 and has been remanded to judicial custody, while further investigation into the extent of the fraud continues.
