Samuel Rust, 23, formerly of Boverton in Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan, has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for rape and false imprisonment.
Rust was sentenced at Gloucester Crown Court on December 17 for offences linked to an attack he carried out while he was a teenager. A jury found him guilty of anal rape, oral rape, sexual assault, and false imprisonment of a woman of the same age.
He was cleared of 25 other charges, while the jury failed to reach verdicts on seven further counts.
The court heard that Rust was 16 at the time of the offences. In one incident, the victim initially consented to being restrained but was later placed naked inside a cupboard for around 15 minutes without her consent.
Shortly before the trial, Rust pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornographic images. Police seized his electronic devices during his arrest in April 2024 and discovered approximately 4,500 videos dated between 2021 and 2024, many involving violence and abuse toward women.
Judge Lawrie KC described the material as deeply disturbing and said it reflected Rust’s attitudes and behavior. The judge also noted that Rust showed little remorse, describing a letter he wrote to the victim as “the opposite of contrition.”
The victim read a statement in court detailing the lasting emotional impact of the offences.
Detective Constable Annabel Brittain said the crimes had a “devastating and prolonged effect” and praised the victim and witnesses for their bravery.
Rust was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and restraining orders preventing contact with the victim and two other women.
