BANGKOK, Dec 19, 2025 – Former Olympic gold medalist Manus Boonjumnong was arrested for fraud after failing to appear in court for sentencing, authorities said.

The arrest was carried out by the Anti-Fraud Division following two warrants issued by the Don Mueang District Court. Manus is accused of defrauding victims in 2021 by falsely selling a lottery ticket quota for 2 million baht.

According to court documents, Manus claimed the quota came from a senior associate, but the victims never received the promised tickets. When they sought their money back, he reportedly gave evasive responses.

Previously released on bail, Manus failed to attend his court hearings. The court sentenced him to 1 year and 6 months for the first case and 1 year and 3 months for the second, totaling 2 years and 9 months in prison.

Following the arrest, Manus was taken to Don Mueang Court before being transferred to Bangkok Special Prison. During his transfer, he joked about missing the SEA Games boxing championship.

Manus Boonjumnong is one of Thailand’s most celebrated athletes, being the only Thai boxer to win two Olympic medals:

Gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics

Silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics

He also won gold at the Asian Games and two SEA Games gold medals, cementing his legacy in Thai sports history.
