The Keonjhar police have arrested Rudra Narayan Mishra (40), treasurer of the Keonjhar District Truck Owners’ Association, on charges of killing his live-in partner, Priyanka Dash (28), a guest lecturer at the Home Science Department of Government Women’s College, Keonjhar.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Mining Road area of Keonjhar town. Priyanka, a resident of Talapada village, Remuna tehsil, Balasore district, was found dead at the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital.
Priyanka’s family received a call from an unknown number claiming that she had accidentally fallen while locking her house. However, upon reaching the hospital, family members noticed injury marks on her neck, raising suspicion of foul play.
Following a complaint lodged by Priyanka’s uncle, Hemendra Prasad Dash, the police registered a case at Keonjhar Town Police Station and arrested Rudra Narayan Mishra.
The couple reportedly lived together near the Odisha School of Mining Engineering campus, although the accused was originally a resident of the Old Town area.
Priyanka’s body has been seized for postmortem, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy. The accused is being interrogated to determine the circumstances leading to the crime, and further investigation is underway.
