DIXMONT, Maine — A Dixmont man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he shot one person and assaulted two others with a bat during a violent incident Friday night.
Caleb Springer, 25, of Dixmont, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated reckless conduct, and aggravated assault, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched around 9:15 p.m. after the Penobscot Regional Communications Center received a report of a man acting erratically and firing a gun along Masonic Road. Responding officers detained the suspect at the scene and identified him as Springer.
Investigators determined that three victims were involved in the incident, all believed to be either friends or family members of Springer. Officials said the case spans multiple crime scenes.
Authorities reported that one victim was shot while seated inside a vehicle. Two additional victims sustained injuries after being struck with a bat during the incident.
Springer was taken into custody and transported to the Penobscot County Jail. The Sheriff’s Office said additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
Deputies are actively reviewing evidence and coordinating with the District Attorney’s Office to determine the full scope of the case.
