AKRON, Ohio — A drug trafficker described by prosecutors as “irresponsible and negligent” has been sentenced to prison in Akron.
Tavares Skipper, 37, received a prison sentence of nine to 13.5 years on charges of trafficking cocaine and endangering children. He previously pleaded guilty to the charges in October.
Prosecutors noted that Skipper was already on community control for earlier drug convictions when this latest case arose.
In March, Akron police executed a search warrant at Skipper’s home. He attempted to flee but was stopped during a traffic stop, where officers found a child in his car along with 158 grams of cocaine, several unidentified white pills, and $2,935 in cash.
Inside Skipper’s residence, officers discovered a 5-year-old home alone. Prosecutors said that preparing drugs in the presence of children “shows a clear disregard for their safety and the greater wellbeing of the community.”
A Summit County prosecutor stated: “Drug traffickers profit from the exploitation of people battling addiction, and my office will continue working to remove these offenders from Summit County.”
