Two youths were arrested with 14 grams of mephedrone (MD) powder worth Rs1,30,000, following a tip-off received by the police. The duo was detained after a Crime Branch team nabbed them and seized the contraband kept in small packets. Officials said the accused will be questioned to identify their supplier and trace their drug network within the city.
According to police, an informer reported that two young men, aged around 20–22 years, were waiting for a customer in the Shyamla Hills area with the narcotic substance. Acting on the information, a Crime Branch team reached the spot and spotted the suspects.
A search was conducted, and the mephedrone packets were recovered from them. The youths were taken into custody immediately. They were later identified as Sameer (20) and Sohail (23), both residents of the Budhwara area in the old city.
Police said efforts are underway to trace their supplier, determine how long they have been involved in the illegal drug trade, and uncover the broader distribution network connected to the seized contraband.
