WILMINGTON, N.C. – Altonio Johnson, 31, of Wilmington, has pleaded guilty to the 2023 murder of 32-year-old Micsha Fukiko Durham of Jacksonville, authorities said. Durham was found dead in the bathroom of E.P. Godwin Stadium on April 11.
Investigators reported that Durham suffered multiple stab wounds to her torso and one to her leg. Officials noted that her clothing was disturbed at the scene. Durham was last seen on April 8, 2023, with Johnson, according to community reports collected by detectives.
Johnson was seen riding a Wave Transit bus downtown and later with Durham at a restaurant and walking into E.P. Godwin Stadium. Surveillance footage showed the pair entering the stadium bathroom just before 4 p.m. Fifteen minutes later, Johnson was recorded leaving the area by hopping a locked fence. Durham never left the bathroom.
Video evidence also showed Johnson placing a large knife and Durham’s belongings into a backpack at a local vape shop shortly after the murder. Investigators found that Johnson had searched online for news about a body found at the stadium before authorities discovered Durham’s body.
Johnson was arrested on April 14 on an unrelated warrant and formally charged with murder on April 18. On Nov. 3, he pled guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced to 541-686 months in prison.
“Altonio Johnson is a violent man whose actions took the life of a young woman,” said District Attorney Jason W. Smith. “While nothing can bring Micsha back, this lengthy sentence and guilty plea bring closure to her family. We are grateful for the efforts of the Wilmington Police Department and the community in this case.”
