Basti police have arrested six members of an inter-district cyber fraud network accused of operating mule bank accounts, cheating citizens, and siphoning off funds from across India.

Police teams from Kotwali, Lalganj, and the Cyber Cell apprehended Sujit Chaudhary, Nipendra Chaudhary, and Ramnath Chauhan near the Mathauli Chhath Ghat pond, while Ashwini Pathak, Nikhil Tripathi, and Prashant Mishra were arrested at the Basti bus station.

Investigations are underway under cases registered at Kotwali, Lalganj, and Sonha police stations, citing the BNS and Section 66D of the IT Act. Authorities confirmed the suspects’ involvement after verifying mule accounts used in cyber frauds.

Preliminary inquiries revealed 38 mule bank accounts linked to the accused, 74 complaints from multiple states, and a total of Rs4.49 crore siphoned through these accounts. Police warn that the fraud amount may rise as more victims come forward.

Authorities are continuing the probe to identify additional members and recover the misappropriated funds.
