Kanpur Police conducted a major raid exposing a criminal operation that manipulated online cricket betting through the Champion Trophy Cricket League gaming application. The fraudsters lured victims with promises of financial gains and exploited them for substantial sums. Police recovered electronic equipment and critical documents from the site.
Acting on intelligence, the Kalyanpur police raided a house near Bada Park in Ambedkarpuram, Awas Vikas-3, on Thursday evening, apprehending three suspects who tried to flee. The arrested individuals are Imran and Shivam Rajawat from Jalaun district and Ashutosh alias Satyam Tiwari from Derapur Faridpur, Kanpur Dehat.
The suspects admitted to attracting victims through the Cricket Buzz app, linking them to a group called Syndicate. They collected banking information under the guise of monetary transfers, using it to create fraudulent IDs and conduct online betting. During the Champion Trophy matches, they orchestrated deceptive gaming activities and committed cyber fraud.
Police seized 30 mobile phones, 3 laptops, 10 bank passbooks, 12 ATM cards, and 3 cheque books during the raid. ACP Kalyanpur Abhishek Kumar confirmed the arrests and stated that legal proceedings are underway.
Investigations reveal the criminals allowed small winnings initially, only to later defraud victims of larger amounts. A register discovered at the location contained details of individuals associated with the Syndicate group, enabling the fraudsters to predetermine winners and losers in the online games. Police are currently searching for the syndicate’s leader.
