The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested Nigamath Nisha, 52, of Neelankarai, for allegedly cheating over 46 people out of Rs3 crore by collecting advance payments for rental properties she did not deliver.
According to police, the case came to light when S. Tharuman of Neelankarai approached Nisha while looking for a house to lease. Nisha, who runs June Homes Private Limited on Rangareddy Garden, claimed a house in Chinna Neelankarai was available for rent. Tharuman signed a lease agreement and paid Rs7 lakh as advance.
Despite receiving the payment, Nisha delayed handing over the house. When Tharuman asked for a refund, Nisha did not return the money and instead arranged temporary accommodation at another property in Injambakkam.
Investigators are probing further to identify other victims and recover the defrauded amount.
