Grayson County man admits killing Charles Davis

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) — A Grayson County man is headed to prison after pleading guilty to murder on Tuesday. Rameon Jordan, 41, admitted to killing Charles Davis, 38, during a confrontation behind a motel on Texoma Parkway in April 2024.

According to Grayson County District Attorney John Kermit Hill, both men were under the influence of methamphetamine when they began arguing over a woman around 1:30 a.m. Jordan ultimately shot Davis three times, resulting in his death.

Hill described the encounter as “a situation that just got out of control.” Jordan had previously claimed self-defense, but this week notified the court he was prepared to accept responsibility.

“Bottom line is he killed somebody without having any proper justification for doing so,” Hill said.

Jordan received a 32-year prison sentence and a $500 fine. Hill noted the punishment sends a strong message that violent crime will not be tolerated in Grayson County.

Members of Davis’ family filled the courtroom as the sentence was handed down. Hill said the judge hoped the resolution would offer them a step toward closure.

Before being escorted from the courtroom, Jordan apologized to the victim’s family, telling them he never intended for the situation to escalate into violence. Hill described the apology as “fairly heartfelt,” noting that such statements from defendants are rare in open court.
